How To Deal With Jealousy and Competition

JealousyBefore some of you read this, I suggest that you drink your HATERADE.  This blog is brutally honest.  If you cannot be honest with yourself or with God…then this may not be for you.  Jealousy is a very dangerous spirit!  The first act of murder in the Bible was driven from jealously when Cain had killed his brother Abel.  The Spirits of jealousy and competition go hand in hand.  As hard as this is for me to admit, I struggled with jealousy and low self-esteem for most of my life because of my childhood and my upbringing. I was sexually, physically, and emotionally abused as a child and was often picked on and ridiculed growing up by peers and my family. I always wanted to fit into any crowd…at any cost no matter how ridiculous it made me look.  Jealousy is a strongman that is derived from FEAR.  When you see someone that has or does something you don’t, and it burns you…you are jealous.  If you or someone around you is always putting people down when they receive accolades…then you or they are JEALOUS!

God is a jealous God and He does not want you coveting ANYTHING!  That is one of the commandments of the Bible.  When you are jealous and try to compete against brother so and so, or sister so and so…that is a form of idolatry.  You idolize them instead of the Lord.  “But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.” – James 3:14-16  The Word just said that jealousy is NOT wise, so why operate in that spirit?  Perhaps you are single, and your best friend or sister or brother-in-Christ gets married before you do (although you have waited a longer period of time than she or he), and you feel it’s YOUR turn, so you decided to retaliate by becoming:

  • Evasive
  • Rude
  • Intentionally causing trouble
  • Mean
  • Angry
  • Bitter

This is not good folks.  We all have character flaws, but dealing with jealousy and competition needs to be killed at it’s root!!!  Here are some key factors to look out for, if you or someone around you are dealing with jealousy:

FRIENDS & FAMILY MEMBERS:

  • Every time you buy or get something new, that friend or relative tries to compete to out do you.
  • Anytime they host a party or event…they expect you to come. When you host one..they are no place to be found.
  • They follow you everyone you go to see what you are doing to sabotage your happiness
  • You are intentionally set-up on purpose when planning outings and they never show up
  • All eyes are always on you,  and slick comments are usually made as a  “joke”, but you know its pure HATING!
  • You are usually the one favoured and they pick fights, lie, gossip and try to slander your name or character.
  • They are attempting to see your demise by making it seem like “it’s okay to die” while they can steal what is yours.

MINISTRY & CHURCH

  • The Pastor or leadership sees the anointing on your life and they intentionally try to keep you down and inactive out of fear you will out do them.
  • You receive a powerful prophecy from the Pastor or Minster in front of the congregation, and people in the church try to do things in the church to get you to leave. They are cruel, evasive, back-stabbing, and intentionally not include you in church functions and events.
  • You are always sat down when God is trying to use you for a prophetic word or during intercessory prayer.
  • Leadership sees that the pastor may favour you and they attempt to do things to sabotage you.  At times they may “pray you out of the church”.

This is sad, but I can go on and on.  “Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the Lord.” – Song of Solomon 8:6.  Jealousy can lead to murder and other demonic acts.  If you or whomever is around you don’t get a grip..it could kill you.  Jealousy and bitterness causes cancer, diabetes, thyroid problems, asthma, and other health related issues.  God loves us too much to see us perish for hating our brother or sister.  What’s for you is for you. “A tranquil heart gives life to the flesh, but envy makes the bones rot.” – Proverbs 14:30.  If you or someone is struggling with jealousy, that is something you must take to the LORD right away.  Pride is a deadly spirit.  Honesty shows character!  Jealousy and competition has to be dealt with immediately.

Jealousy and competition often happens when we have not dealt with an issue that happened to us in our upbringing or a relationship. Fear sets in and then we panic, fearing we will “lose”, “miss”, “won’t accomplish”, or be left out.  Please do not believe these lies from the devil.  God is about love and peace…not confusion.  Pray your way through it.  If you see someone you know operating in this spirit, keep them in prayer until it’s time for you to confront them in love.

Please feel free to post comments.  They are always welcome.  God Bless you.
